The Cinema Museum is proud once again to be the London host for the annual Home Movie Day, at which the public can bring their home movies (e.g. on super 8, 8mm, 9.5mm or 16mm) for inspection by a trained archivist.

Award-winning costume designer, Julie Harris, talks to BFI fiction curator Jo Botting about a glittering career that began in 1947 at Gainsborough Films and continued until her retirement in 1991. Julie worked on over seventy films and won an Oscar for Darling and a BAFTA for The Wrong Box.

Chaplin’s London in Hollywood

A hundred years ago on this very day, Chaplin left England for America. Film historian David Trigg marks this event with a screening of The Immigrant, and shows, with extracts from his other films, how in Hollywood Chaplin searched for suitable locations and built sets based on his South London childhood.

The Silent Majority: Glenn Mitchell

London in the Hopfields

A highly acclaimed presentation of life in the hopfields of Kent by film historian Barry Littlechild. The programme will include newsreels and films from the 1920s and 1930s along with a recently rediscovered drama from the 1950s set in the hopfields, and starring many British actors who went on to be household names.

From deep sea monsters to vengeful skeleton warriors, from battling dinosaurs to a truly frightening Medusa, Ray’s fantastic creations have inspired filmmakers and film-goers for over 50 years.
