Corridor of Mirrors

Electric Blue presents Corridor of Mirrors (1948), in collaboration with film journal Cinema Year Zero for the release of their latest edition, ‘Pirates!’

Cinema Year Zero is a journal of film criticism based in London, covering film history and archive, with an ethos of ‘slow criticism from the end of the world’. Volume 18 of their periodical gets into the spirit of the high seas and low moral codes. With voyages from histories of the early days of file sharing and the cam-rip market, to the morality of distribution in the global south, this issue is dedicated to discussions of media piracy as it is: a contemporary reality.

Terence Young’s dream-like Corridor of Mirrors is a Gothic fable that plunges into the paranoia of mimesis of the uncanny. When a young artist (Eric Portman) meets a beguiling woman (Edana Romney), he becomes fixated on the idea that she betrayed him in a past life launching a visual feast saturated in reflective lunacy and ballroom decadence.

The feature will be preceded by a selection of shorts in honour of the Piracy archive (sailors and bootleggers welcome), surrounded by The Cinema Museum’s accumulated treasure of cinematic jewels. Furthermore, there will be an exclusive chance to get your hands on Volume 18: Pirates! in print at the event. Don’t miss out!
