Bogey plays Dixon Steele, a washed-up Hollywood screenwriter with a short temper, who is linked to the death to a young secretary. Next door neighbour Laurel (Grahame) is falling for him, and vice versa, but his violent nature is giving her second thoughts. Sensitive acting and a highly intelligent script make this one of the truly great noirs.
