Come and enjoy a selection of Ronald Grant’s personal favourite films.
The Servant (1963), based on the novel by Robin Maugham, was scripted by Harold Pinter and directed by Joseph Losey, a collaborative team who went on to make Accident (1967) and The Go Between (1971). The film stars Dirk Bogarde, James Fox, Wendy Craig and Sarah Miles.
Wealthy, upper-class Londoner Tony (Fox) hires Barrett (Bogarde) as his manservant, and at first the relationship works well. But when Tony gets a girlfriend (Craig) and Barrett introduces his sister (Miles) to act as a maidservant, the delicate balance between master and servant breaks down.
