Simon, Daniela and I launched South Social Film Festival last year in November. We were a tiny little niche festival in the middle of hundreds of big time events but we made a dent. People liked us. The idea is simple, we screen each film together with live music and the food from the country of the film. It’s easy and fun and we let expats, local communities and everybody come in and enjoy our showcase. We feel that talking about cultural diversity in a cool way, people respond well and want more.
We will use the funds to make the festival sustainable. It will grow gradually in time with our fan club of followers. Right now our venue is the Cinema Museum in Elephant and Castle, an amazing venue that looks a bit like a church, a warehouse and a crazy memorabilia hub. Just the venue would be worth your ticket. With a bit more money we can rent better films, pay for flight and hotel for foreign directors, get better bands and above all pay all the volunteers that have been contributing to our fab fest!
