ReShape and the Cinema Museum present the VITO Project, a series of free monthly screenings bringing generations of LGBTs together to provide an alternative space to mix, watch films and share ideas.
This month’s film is John Water’s 1981 film Polyester, starring cross-dressing diva Divine and Tab Hunter.
Remembered for it’s use of scratch and sniff cards, a gimmick called “Odorama”, Polyester was one of a series of film collaborations between Waters and his muse Divine (Harris Milstead), the “Drag Queen of the Century”. Based in his native Baltimore, Polyester is a send-up of women’s pictures, and is specifically styled after the films of Douglas Sirk. It features music by Michael Kamen, and Blondie’s Chris Stein and Debbie Harry.
The screening will be followed by an open discussion led by Amy Lamé.
The project is endorsed by BFI Flare, 56 Dean St, Gay’s the Word, ACT UP London, Gay Mates, a Change of Scene, the Cara Trust, I-Base, UK-CAB, Naz Project & Positively UK.
Doors open at 18.00, for a 19.00 start.
Refreshments will be available in our licensed cafe/bar.
