In tribute to the late great Gene Hackman, The Nickel presents a screening of The French Connection on 16mm film, paired with an intro by Dominic Hicks.
Tough narcotics detective ‘Popeye’ Doyle is in hot pursuit of a suave French drug dealer who may be the key to a huge heroin-smuggling operation.
Friedkin and Hackman took a raw and unfiltered ‘verité’ approach to this character study/crime procedural with one of the meanest, scuzziest location-shot films of the decade.
The Nickel will include a pre-reel of Hackman related clips and trailers before the film.
Doors open at 18.30, for a 19.30 start. Refreshments will be available in our licensed cafe/bar.
