This year marks 20 years since the BBC’s adaption of Fingersmith, the extraordinary novel from Sarah Waters, hit our TV screens. The gripping story followed two women, Sue and Maud, and what begins as a scheming plot swiftly twists into a labyrinthine tale of deception, power, and the struggles of women in Victorian society.
Join us at The Cinema Museum as we celebrate this special occasion during Lesbian Visibility Week with a screening of the first episode, followed by a discussion with Sarah in person, and an audience Q&A. This will be followed by book signing with titles provided by Gay’s the Word bookstore, featuring a specially curated selection of Sarah’s favourite books.
Following the overwhelming success of our sold-out celebration of Tipping the Velvet in 2023, we are thrilled to once again commemorate the incredible work of one of UK’s most beloved contemporary authors. Don’t miss this unforgettable evening dedicated to Sarah Waters’ extraordinary contributions to literature and LGBTQ+ storytelling.
Doors open at 18.00 where you can browse our bookstore, with food and drink available from our café and bar. Screening starts at 18.45. The event is expected to end around 22.00.
Seating is unallocated so we suggest arriving as early as possible. Limited disabled parking spaces are available directly outside the venue. Please contact us in advance to reserve one. Service dogs are welcome. Unfortunately, this screening does not include closed captions or audio descriptions. If you have any additional requirements or questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
