We’ve come a lot of miles, but we’re not close to anything.
The Nickel Cinema presents a series of road films, starting with Sam Peckinpah’s brutal Texan noir The Getaway (1972). Based on Walter Hill’s adapted screenplay of the Jim Thompson novel, The Getaway puts Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw on the run to the El Paso border after a botched heist. Peckinpah fills the screen with poetic carnage in this shotgun blast of a genre pic, with McQueen at the height of his powers.
