Act of Violence (1949), directed by Fred Zinnemann and starring Van Heflin, Robert Ryan, Janet Leigh, Mary Astor and Phyllis Thaxter.
Frank Enley (Heflin) is a well-respected family man, who lives with his young wife (Leigh) in the small California town of Santa Lisa. During the war he survived a Nazi POW camp where his comrades were murdered by guards during an escape attempt. Joe Parkson (Ryan) was one of those comrades, who lived through the ordeal and was left with a crippled leg. He is now bent on tracking down Frank and wreaking revenge.
At the time, Variety said: “Heflin and Ryan deliver punchy performances that give substance to the menacing terror…It’s grim business, unrelieved by lightness, and the players belt over their assignments under Zinnemann’s knowing direction.”
Doors open at 18.30, for a 19.30 start.
Refreshments will be available in our licensed cafe/bar.
