Kennington Noir presents The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946)

Wed 13 Mar 2024 @ 19:30 · Events

The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946) The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946), directed by Tay Garnett, with Lana Turner and John Garfield.

Film Noir wasn’t really MGM’s style, and so they made very few, but this is possibly their best, helped by having a story by one of the finest exponents of the ‘hard-boiled’ novelist school, James M. Cain. The result was a major box office success for the studio, but MGM head Louis B. Meyer reportedly hated it!

Garfield plays Frank Chambers, a drifter who ends up at a rural diner-cum-service station in the hills outside Los Angeles. It is run by Nick Smith and his beautiful, much younger wife, Cora, played by Turner. Frank and Cora are soon having an affair, and planning how to get rid of her husband…

Doors open at 18.30, for a 19.30 start.

Refreshments will be available in our licensed cafe/bar.
