Desert Fury (1946), directed by Lewis Allen, with Lizabeth Scott, John Hodiak, Burt Lancaster, Mary Astor and Wendell Corey.
Lizabeth Scott plays the daughter of a Nevada casino owner gets involved with a racketeer, Eddie Bendix (John Hodiak), despite the efforts of her mother (Mary Astor), Eddie’s partner (Wendell Corey) and the local sheriff (Burt Lancaster) to separate them.
This is an unusual noir for its time as it was shot in glorious Technicolor, but the Miklós Rózsa score and a script that delights in the characters’ ambiguity place it firmly in the noir canon.
