A classic film noir based on a play by Clifford Odets. Mae Doyle (Barbara Stanwyck) returns home to a Monterey fishing community, following a messy affair. She soon makes friends with her brother’s girlfriend Peggy (Marilyn Monroe). She marries local fisherman Jerry (Paul Douglas), for security more than love. A year later she has a young child, but is restless and attracted to Jerry’s best friend Earl (Robert Ryan).
