StoryTrails, the UK’s largest immersive storytelling project is coming to Lambeth on 10 September for two days only with activity centred around Brixton Library.
One of 10 commissioned projects for UNBOXED, StoryTrails brings cutting-edge immersive technologies together with the emotional power of archival moving image to tell the untold stories of fifteen towns and cities across the UK. Led by StoryFutures Academy, and collaboratively produced with creatives drawn from each location together with some of the UK’s leading interactive design agencies, these ground-breaking experiences bring community histories and films from the BFI National Archive into Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and immersive screen installations. The project had a really successful launch at the beginning of July, travelled to Northern Ireland, Scotland, north of England, the Midlands, Wales, the South West and will arrive in Lambeth next weekend.
Lambeth locals can immerse themselves in an augmented reality trail created by Patricia Lalla, experiencing the story of Winifred Atwell and learning more about how she became the first UK black artist to reach number one in the pop charts. Visitors could also explore an emotional map of their hometown through an immersive cinema experience and discover local stories on Ipads created by local storymapper Naresh Kaushal and try out a variety of ground-breaking virtual reality experiences – including Kindred, a VR film that has been selected for this year’s Venice Immersive competition at La Biennale. All the activities are completely FREE and each day at 1 pm there is a special immersive cinema experience with popcorn followed by a Q&A with StoryTrails executives and creative practitioners.
