oestrogeneration is excited to be programming a screening of Call Her Ganda, followed by a roundtable discussion with filipina trans women reacting to the film.
Call Her Ganda is a 2018 documentary by PJ Raval following the death of Filipina trans woman Jennifer Laude in Olongapo, and the subsequent political uprising in the Philippines. Through the voices of an activist attorney, a transgender investigative journalist, and Jennifer’s mum, the film delves into this case and the wider colonial relationship between the Philippines and the US.
The film will be followed by a roundtable discussion chaired by Ella Mitchelle with Victoria Gigante, Dee Mendoza and Rica Paras who’ll be reacting to the film and share their experiences navigating the world as filipina trans women.
All funds raised from this event will be donated to STRAP (The Society of Trans Women of the Philippines): a support group and advocacy organisation for trans Pinays.
Doors open at 16.00 for a 17.00 start.
Refreshments will be available in our licensed cafe/bar.
