Kennington Noir presents Crime Wave (1953) directed by Andre de Toth, starring Sterling Hayden, Gene Nelson and Phyllis Kirk.
This low-budget hard-hitting crime flick shot in 13 days on location in the City Of Angels was a highlight at last year’s Bologna Film Festival (Il Cinema Ritrovato). Sterling Hayden looms over his co-stars as the cynical, scowling detective willing to break any rule to catch a couple of cop killers who have holed themselves up with an ex-con, who is trying to go straight. Watch for Tim Carey as a bug-eyed dope fiend, and Charles Bronson in an early appearance as one of the sleazeball thugs.
Andre De Toth directed only two noir films, and there’s not a dull moment in the 75 minute running time of Crime Wave. Don’t miss!
