The Cinema Museum is teaming up with the South London Jazz Orchestra (SLJO) to lay on an evening benefit to support Syrian refugees in the camp at Calais. The money will be paid to Doctors of the World, the only registered medical charity operating in the camp.
Since 2003, Doctors of the World has provided essential medical help to refugees and migrants living in and around Calais. In 2015 their volunteer doctors and nurses treated thousands of people in camps and settlements for a wide range of health conditions and wounds. They also provide psychosocial therapy, hygiene kits and mobile clinics to smaller and harder to reach groups of refugees spread out across the region. In October, along with other NGOs, they appealed about the living conditions for refugees in Calais to a French court which ordered the local government to organise refuse collection, to create 10 additional water points and to install 50 new toilets.

There will be dancers, comedians, a raffle and our compere for the evening will be Sion James, the doyen of the Clapham Comedy Club. Find out more about Sion here.
Plus a performance (20 mins) of Human Me, recently staged at the Young Vic. Human Me is a young people’s devised piece exploring the new and different relationships forged between strangers as a result of the refugee crisis. Many of the stories featured were influenced from participant’s and contributors own experiences of living and working in Calais.
Doors open at 19.00, for a 20.00 start.
Refreshments will be available in our licensed cafe/bar.
