The Philharmonia Orchestra presents a screening of three Charlie Chaplin films, with live music conducted by Carl Davis, on 10 April at the Royal Festival Hall.
Chaplin’s own music accompanies the two main feature films. In A Dog’s Life (1918), Charlie strikes up a friendship with a stray dog that leads him into farcical antics, whilst in Shoulder Arms (1918), hapless Charlie is sent over the top whilst fighting in the First World War. Carl Davis’s score to Kid Auto Races at Venice (1914) accompanies the first ever film appearance of Chaplin’s ‘little tramp’ character.
