ReShape and the Cinema Museum present the VITO Project, a series of free monthly screenings bringing generations of LGBTs together to provide an alternative space to mix, watch films and share ideas.
Paris is Burning is a documentary, directed by Jennie Livingston, about the ball culture in New York, and has been have praised as a thoughtful exploration of race, class, gender, and sexuality in America.
It shows how the contestants in these drag competitions dealt with the adversity of racism, homophobia, AIDS and poverty in mid-to-late 1980s New York.
The film will be followed by an open discussion.
The project is endorsed by BFI Flare, 56 Dean St, QX Magazine, Gay’s the Word, ACT UP London, Gay Mates and Positively UK.
Doors open at 18.30 for a 19.30 start.
