Monty Python and the Use of History exhibition.
Do you remember Mr. Hilter? How about the Spanish Inquisition? King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table? Well, the Pythons were always obsessed with History. It was one of their favourite themes and they satirized countless historical topics. History made their comedy funnier, poignant, and naturally more sophisticated. Is it possible that Python comedy was – and still is – an alternative history lecture? Or was it just for laughs?
As part of his final project for his master’s degree, Public History postgraduate student and Cinema Museum volunteer Ilias Pantazis discusses the role of History in the work of Monty Python. His exhibition can be viewed upstairs at the Cinema Museum from Wednesday September 2nd to Friday September 4th between 11.00 and 17.00. Admission free.
