The Kennington Bioscope is a regular cinema event featuring live accompaniment to silent films that takes place at the Cinema Museum.
The main feature is A Story of Floating Weeds (1934), directed by Yasujiro Ozu, who later remade it in sound and colour in 1959 as Floating Weeds, and starring Takeshi Sakamoto, Chouko Iida, and Rieko Yagumo. The film will be screened with a 35mm print.
A Story of Floating Weeds describes the lives and loves of a travelling kabuki theatre troupe. When the mistress (Rieko Yagumo) of the troupe’s leading actor (Takeshi Sakamoto) discovers he has a lover (Chouko Iida) and son in his past, she hatches a plot to bring down the son.
A programme of silent shorts precedes the main film. Anyone interested in silent film should visit the website for more info.
