Following its successful launch on SKY epg 343, Talking Pictures TV is launching on Freeview channel 81, on Tuesday 22nd September 2015 at 13.00.
In addition to our SKY viewers we will now be available to 70% of the UK population in most major cities and towns.
Do you remember the sheer joy and excitement of Saturday Morning Pictures? Where Heroes and villains and clowns and crooners, invariably in glorious black & white, would entertain you for hours and hours. Now those glorious days return, and it’s not just for Saturday mornings. It’s twenty four hours a day. Every day! So, grab your bag of popcorn and your drink on a stick, take your seat in the one-and-nines, and re-live some of the rarest and greatest gems from Film history, all brought to a grateful viewer by Renown Pictures, the extraordinary DVD label who continue to release their extensive archive. With Talking Pictures Television you can now watch before you buy. A unique way to build-up your very own library of Classic British Film.
Whether it’s Bill Travers battling the monstrous Gorgo, dogged Brighton policeman Jack Warner hot on the heels of a murderer in Jigsaw, or the touching romance of Michael Denison & Dulcie Gray in The Glass Mountain, Talking Pictures Television will keep on delivering, allowing viewers to wallow in the very best of British, wherever and whenever they want to.
Not only that, but we conjure up wonderful and rarely broadcast classics from the Hollywood television archives; resurrecting such popular, long unseen favourites as Burke’s Law and The June Allyson Show. Guest~starring everyone from Harpo Marx to Jayne Mansfield, Talking Pictures Television tops up your tinsel town fix too. Now, after a hugely enjoyable and audience~pleasing four months, the British film-lovers’ best~loved television channel is being made available to an even wider audience. That means you can now watch it. You lucky people!
And our September schedule is jam-packed with treasures. Just like every month! However, to mark this exciting new chapter, we have a bushel-load of fresh films starring some of our greatest actors. Alec Guinness takes on one of his favourites roles as an impoverished and opinionated artist in The Horse’s Mouth. Wendy Hiller plays the principled Salvation Army Major Barbara, in a script co~adapted for the screen by George Bernard Shaw himself. Michael Redgrave gives one of the performances of his career as the ridiculed and cuckolded Headmaster in Terence Rattigan’s touching drama The Browning Version; and vintage old school telly graces the screens with a selection of much loved Episodes from the Southern TV Library. September also see debut screenings for a range of films from 1940s Hollywood, including the effortlessly urbane William Powell in the whimsical Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid, and the high-octane biopic of Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey. The legendary bandleaders play themselves in this rags to riches tale of brotherly rivalry. So, whether it’s westerns or weepies, comedies or creepies, Talking Pictures Television has it all. Simply settle back to some of the funniest, most thrilling, and just plain entertaining television available, anywhere. It’s all at the touch of a button. Whatever time you want it!
