Age UK Lambeth’s Celebrating Age Festival brings you a slice of local history. Brixton Fairies: Made Possible By Squatting (2014).
Taha Hassan’s documentary takes us back to the mid-1970s, when Brixton saw the establishment of London’s first Gay Community Centre. Formed when the South London Gay Liberation Front took over a disused housing block in Railton Road, the Centre became an important hub of the gay community, and has had an incalculable influence on the LGBTQ+ movement.
Hassan brings this history to life through interviews with original members of the squat, many of whom still live and work here in Lambeth.
Doors open at 13.30 for a 14.00 start.
