Now in his 90th year, Peter de Rome has at last been acknowledged as one of the world’s greatest pioneers of gay erotic cinema. His films are now preserved by the BFI National Archive.
From the mid-1960s Peter took his silent 8mm films, together with a projector and a tape recorder, to private parties in London and New York, where guests included David Hockney, John Gielgud, Derek Jarman and many other celebrities.
For one night only, in a never to be repeated event, Peter will re-create one of these evenings by personally projecting one of his earliest erotic films, Butch Easter (1966). The film, shot during New York’s Easter Parade (and later at Peter’s apartment!), has never been seen before in the UK and was thought lost until it was rediscovered this year.
Peter will also be interviewed by author and journalist Rupert Smith, and other rare films will be shown.
This is an unmissable opportunity to spend an evening in the company of a unique British film-maker, who has been described by So So Gay as a “celebrated, cheeky, alluringly articulate, and unapologetic dirty old man.”
Peter’s films are sexually explicit and suitable only for those aged18 or over.
Doors open at 18.30 for a 19.30 start.
Refreshments will be available in our licenced cafe/bar.
