“Don’t Bother With Them, They’re Silent”: Kevin Brownlow’s Choice – a series of screenings

Sat 6 Apr 2013 @ 19:30 · Events

portrait photo of Kevin BrownlowThe Oscar-winning film historian reveals rare shorts and features from his personal collection, which he hopes will enthrall you as much as they do him – and which are bound to put paid to any dismissive attitudes to silent film!

Kevin Brownlow has been collecting silent films for over 60 years. When he found a particularly striking film, he would try to meet the people who made it. Many of these interviews ended up in his landmark 1968 book The Parade’s Gone By

These three screening events will be a unique chance to see some exceptional titles, with Kevin telling the background to their production.

“I shall bring two features on 16mm in April in case anyone has seen the first one – it will be very rare, excellent quality, and if I didn’t think it was first class, I wouldn’t run it (or own it).”

The season continues on 4 May & 1 June.

The accompaniment will be provided by leading silent film musician Stephen Horne.

Doors open at 18.30 for a 19.30 start. Refreshments will be available in our licenced cafe/bar.
