The Cinema Museum, London

An Afternoon with the Max Wall Society

Sun 1 Sep 2013 @ 14:00 - 19:00 · Events

Max Wall as Professor WallofskiFounded ten years ago, The Max Wall Society is dedicated to preserving the memory of one of the last century’s most original comedians.

Born near the Oval, not far from where the Cinema Museum now stands, Wall’s early skill as a dancer and physical comic made him one of the most memorable music-hall stars of pre-war Britain, before he graduated to TV and film between the ’50s and ’70s.

A hugely various performer, he is best known for creating Professor Wallofski, one of his on-stage alter-egos, a contorted homunculus striding clumsily around and attempting to perform piano demonstrations. He was also a respected actor, and is remembered for his roles in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Jabberwocky, several soap operas and his performances in Samuel Beckett plays.
