Join us for an evening of folk and film that retraces the British folk club scene from the 1950s onwards, with Pete Morton your folk club MC, and archive footage presented by Doc Rowe.
There’ll be songs and music in a quintessential folk club format, with floor singers, real ales and a raffle. Contact Pete to book a spot: 07974 214987 or petermrtn1@aol.com.
Acclaimed folk singer Pete Morton has entertained audiences all over the globe with his unique and involving style of song-writing and traditional singing. His songs are an unruly mix of humour, politics, love and social comment, wrapping their way around the folk tradition. He has recorded five solo albums of original material.
Doc Rowe has been documenting British folk customs, seasonal events, song, dance and oral history since the 1960s. He has amassed a large collection of recordings in still and movie film, video and audio, plus a wide range of print and ephemera. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in music from University of Sheffield in 2002 for his research work into vernacular culture and traditional music, and in 2005 was awarded the English Folk Dance and Song Society’s Gold Badge for his documentation of traditional Song and Dance.
“It is … a tribute to the English folk scene, unlike New York, it wasn’t competitive. People sang songs for the sheer pleasure of it … they didn’t mind being the audience when somebody else was singing.” Bob Dylan
Doors open at 18.30 for a 19.30 start, and the event is expected to end at 23.00. Refreshments will be available.
