The Cinema Museum is hosting a series of screenings with talks from Jon Davies.
- 18 September Méliès, Lumière, Gance and their contemporaries + The Chess Player (1927) – an exciting masterpiece of French cinema now completely restored
- 16 October Jour de Fête (1950) – Jacques Tati’s first, and for many his greatest, screen achievement + a comprehensive introduction to the man and his work.
- 20 November The cinema of Louis Malle + Zazie dans le Métro (1960) – Malle’s work of surreal comic genius.
- 11 December French cinema of the 1980s + Diva (1981) – one of the most stylish French films ever.
- 8 January French cinema of the 1990s + Delicatessen – a bizarre, humorous and macabre experience that always enchants.
- 12 February School on film + Les Choristes – sentimental but never sloppy (one for the hankies).
Jon Davies is an Associate of the British Film Institute, who teaches French Cinema at Morley College, Waterloo, and elsewhere.
